More Than Just a Toy Chest

There are a number of reasons why you should consider investing in a quality wooden toy chest. While there are a number of inexpensive plastic toy boxes on the market, most lack the quality of a handmade wooden chest.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Quality

Plastic Toy Boxes

The vast superiority in quality is one of the top reasons to choose a wooden toy chest. While most plastic boxes are made of parts that snap together like a jigsaw puzzle, a wooden chest is made by a craftsman who understands the art of joining wood and who knows how hard kids can be on furniture. By using sturdy joining techniques like dovetailing and heavy-duty hinges on chest lids, the craftsmen create a piece that you can buy with confidence. Rest easy knowing that you have purchased a high quality piece of furniture. It will be able to withstand the demands that come with being a piece of furniture in a child's playroom.

Appearance

Not only will a handmade wooden chest last longer than a fabricated plastic one, but it will look much nicer as well. If you have chosen a particular decorating theme for your child's bedroom or playroom, then a beautiful wooden chest can be finished to match the rest of the woodwork or the other pieces of furniture in the room. If you want to tie a sense of sophistication in to your child's room and need a place where toys can be hidden to quickly turn their room into an elegant part of the house, then you'll certainly want to explore the options available to you in wooden toy chests.

Memories

A piece such as a custom or handmade wooden toy chest can quickly become an heirloom. If there was a toy chest that stands out as an integral part of your childhood, then think about how meaningful it would be if you were able to let your kids use that same chest. If there wasn't a box in your past, then consider introducing one into your family. One day you may be helping your grandkids clean up their toys into that very same box. This kind of scenario isn't even plausible with an inexpensive plastic toy box, but it is very much a realistic possibility if you choose to invest in the future memories of your family with a wooden toy chest.

It can be refinished

Wooden toy chests are versatile. They can be stripped, repainted, and refinished as many times as you would like. Whether handed down to a boy or girl, painted pink or blue, the box will always be structurally the same. Every child will be able to put their own unique stamp on it and will have their own memories of the times that the toy chest was theirs. Imagine sitting around years later, as younger generations play around the toy chest, and remembering with your siblings, cousins, and others all of the different faces that the box has had over the years.

Little Tikes Giant Toy Chest Pink Specifications

This pink and white toy chest is big enough for a 50-bear slumber party. There are no handles, which makes it somewhat awkward to move around (for anyone but a large adult). The top fits but does not lock into place--a plus, from the safety point of view. Easily strong enough for kids to climb or sit on, though not recommended for Dad when he's trying to change a light bulb. --Richard Farr

Wild Planet Gear - Spy Video ATV 360 - The Must-Have Spy Toy For the Holidays

Spy Gear Spy Video ATV-360 by Wild Planet is one of the best selling toys on Amazon this Christmas season and is being touted as a must have toy for junior spies, but is this super selling toy worth your hard earned money? Spy Gear Spy Video ATV 360 is like buying three toys all wrapped into one super toy and that alone will appeal to many budget conscious buyers.

Plastic Toy Boxes

First, you have the appeal of the ATV itself. This RC controlled ATV is a powerhouse. It is able to drive over most obstacles like piles of laundry, rugs, and dirt mounds thanks to the ATV's thick black treads. The exterior is made out of plastic but it's a heavy plastic which will stand up well to children's rough housing. Overall this is a very sturdy product. The ATV can be controlled from a long distance away, even another room or floor of the house. The remotes may be a little difficult to handle for a younger child but most children familiar with other RC equipment will catch on easily.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Beyond the ATV itself there's also black and white video surveillance capabilities. The video is shot on top of the ATV and then sent to a remote viewer so that the child can "spy" what's going on in the area the ATV is in. The video is of relatively good quality for the price of the product and shows up fine on the small screen. The fact that the camera can show a three hundred sixty degree angle is definitely a plus. It would have been nice to have additional control vertically. It's a lot of fun to see the surveillance footage in places you wouldn't normally have access to such as under the couch.

Finally, the Spy Gear Spy Video ATV-360 can also record sound at the location of the ATV and send it back to an earpiece giving people the chance to spy in on conversations. The included ear bud has good sound quality.

The only major downfall to the Spy Gear Spy Video ATV is the fact that it takes twelve double A batteries which can run out rather quickly. If you plan on using this toy often it may be worthwhile to invest in a set of twelve rechargeable batteries.

Wild Planet Spy Gear Spy Video ATV-360 is definitely a toy children will get a lot of use out of. Considering all of it's features it's a great buy.

Organizing a Workshop

Being organized is the key to productivity and ends much hair pulling, waste of precious time hunting for a tool, and blaming others for not being able to find something we know we have. The benefits of organizing are enormous.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Analyze your storage needs and then have the proper tools and storage available. Go to the local home center and buy peg boards, plastic containers, cabinets for the proper storage. If you don't have the proper storage you will have nowhere to store what you want to keep. It won't have a home live in and will end up lost or just another part of the clutter.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Here's a tip: buy more than you need. Buy every little interesting accessory you see and bring it back with you. Save your receipt. Use the ones that work and return the ones that don't. It is better to have extra storage materials on hand and not need them than vice versa.

Now take everything out of the area you are organizing. This shows you how much space you have to work with and gives you a clean area in which to work. You will probably find some things you never use that you can toss or give away. Then start building your storage space.

Hang peg boards on the wall and with hooks or nails hang everything that can be hung up on this board. Then with a permanent marker outline each tool so you will always at a glance be able to put it back where it belongs. Hang the tools you use most often within easy reach.

Use small drawers in storage units made for nuts and bolts and label the outside of each drawer. Use larger plastic boxes to store tools you can't hang or sort. Tool boxes are also great storage containers and are portable.

After finishing a project or using a tool put tools away immediately. When tools are always put away in their place it is easy to find that tool at any time. If others borrow your tools have a bin or box in the garage or workshop for them to return it in when they are finished using it. The ideal situation is for them to put it back where they got it, but if that doesn't happen because they don't know which tool box it goes in or where to hang it you will at least have borrowed tools all in one place. This saves time and frustration in finding tools helter-skelter on the workbench, floor, or in tool boxes where they don't belong.

If you live with a woman and she has her own tools, leave hers alone because if one turns up missing you will get the blame.

Now that your workshop is organized and you can find all your tools and accessories doesn't that feel good?

Buying a Maine Coon Cat

First, make sure that you can afford a Maine Coon Cat. This does not refer to the cost of buying the kitten - this refers to the cost of lifelong care for the animal. First, he needs to see his veterinarian every year for a checkup. An emergency fund also needs to be set up to pay the vet in the event that the animal gets sick. Despite how healthy and strong Maine Coon Cats are, they do still get ill, just like any other animal.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Maine Coon's thrive on special diets designed for their breed. Therefore, it isn't just a question of purchasing food; it is a question of purchasing the right food. Obviously, this food is usually a great deal more expensive than regular food.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Your Maine Coon needs a bed to call his own, with bedding. He also needs a variety of toys to play with. He isn't just having fun - he is staying in good shape. Toys are vital to his overall good health. He will need cat treats to help keep his teeth and gums in good shape, and also to provide extra vitamins and minerals that he needs. Your vet may prescribe additional vitamins as well.

Your Maine Coon needs a good brush, which will need to be replaced about every six months. He will also need medicated shampoo to control fleas, as well as medication to keep the fleas and ticks off of him. He will also need a harness and leash if you will be taking him outdoors.

It is a good idea to invest in a cat tree. Maine Coons are not as adept as climbing up as other breeds of cats, but they will enjoy a well-designed cat tree that allows them to go up - without having to go straight up. They will also be happy with the various hiding places in the cat tree. These cat trees can be expensive.

You will need an animal carrier. Because Maine Coons grow to be large animals, it needs to be one that can accommodate his size. If you don't travel much, don't assume that you won't need the carrier. First, you will need it to take him back and forth to the veterinarian's office. The animal carrier will also come in handy when it isn't safe for the cat to be in the house - such as when you bomb for bugs or steam clean the carpet.

Obviously, you will need a litter box. You can purchase expensive litter boxes or cheap litter boxes, but one thing is certain. All plastic litter boxes have to be thrown out at some point. The plastic often absorbs the odor, and it does become unbearable to live with after a certain point. You will also need fresh litter for the litter box. Litter can be cheap or expensive - but if you don't want to smell anything, you will be willing to pay for the higher quality litter.

Again, before you spend the money to purchase the Maine Coon, understand that this is not the only cost. Maine Coon's live to be between 15 and 21 years, and that's how long you can expect to have ongoing expenses.

A great starting guide for owners of Maine Coon Cats.

How to Choose Toys for Baby's First Birthday Gifts

A baby's first birthday is an exciting time for parents and family members. The baby has no idea what's going on, just that everyone is smiling and happy and handing him new 'stuff' to play with. Very often, children receive toys inappropriate for their age, and will find more enjoyment from the wrapping paper and box than the new treasure.

Plastic Toy Boxes

Well meaning Aunts and Uncles feel that they must give little Johnny the best gift and head straight to the big name toy store and spend a fortune on the 'hottest' toy of the season only to be let down when the baby shows little interest in the new toy or worse yet, is terrified of the 'bouncing-flipping-singing' media frenzied creation. Here's an idea. How about giving a unique, but time-less toy that the child can learn and grow by? Simple, well-made toys are best for babies and toddlers.

Plastic Toy Boxes

What kinds of toys are best suited for twelve month old babies? Some suggested toys are items like:

Large plastic blocks

Stacking rings

Stuffed toys of different textures

Cloth dolls

Activity centers

Music boxes and toys that make sounds

Toys to ride, push or pull

Remember, babies of this age put everything in their mouths and explore their world through their senses, so make certain that any toy you give as a gift has no small parts or small pieces that will come off. Many of the toys listed above can be used when the child enters toddler and preschool years as well, making quality and durability even more important.

A twelve month old baby is entering into the toddler stage, many are already walking by then, and love to explore with riding toys and other activities such as toy lawn mowers and wagons. A wonderful idea for a first birthday gift is a well-made, classic toy rocking horse. There are beautiful rocking horses to be found, and will become a family heirloom as other children enjoy it throughout the years.

All young toddlers love to snuggle and cuddle soft dolls and animals, and they make great first birthday gifts. Rather than buy the same doll or animal that everyone else will be bringing, look for a unique, well-crafted doll or animal that can withstand lots of love and 'dragging around' by the little one.

Everyone loves to give toys to kids as birthday gifts; however, not everyone knows what kind of toy is best suited for a certain age child. Giving a gift that not everyone else will think of is also a great way to make your gift stand out and be remembered. As strange as it may sound, a simple, wooden or classic toy is very often the 'unique' toy these days and very rarely given. TV and movie characters will come and go, but the toys that stand the test of time will be enjoyed by children for years to come. Do a little research and purchase a toy that will not only delight little Johnny, but will help him learn and grow at the same time.
